Meeting I will never forget

So there I was sitting on the sofa waiting, when suddenly heard the words “Hey Davinder!!! Pleasure to meet you” followed by an unexpected warm hug. I think I need to go back and explain this up before this gets too far. So it was Friday, a rainy day and I was out in market helping my roommate to find formal clothes when I found a 16GB Data Card and picked it up. “It will not work” I said thinking that it is damaged. Still handed over to Jitu [I’ll explain him in later blogs] hoping that it will work. The first thing I did after returning home was to switch on the laptop. Filled with excitement I plugged it in and came to know that it belongs to Mr. Mehta. After checking few more files I found that it contains a lot of written work. I thought to return it and after checking the few docs was able to find the mail address of Mr. Mehta.
Next morning when I woke up I wrote a mail to Mr. Mehta:-

Hi Sir,

Greetings for the day!

Last night while roaming in the market with my roommates I found a Data card and seems that it belongs to you. While browsing through the documents I was able to find your e-mail address. Seems it contains a lot of docs. Which are of immense importance to you.
Please let me know your contact or address details so that I can deliver it to you.

So I got a call from Gen Mehta followed by an E-mail:

“You have come across as a savior Devinder. I am so relieved it is not even funny.
I must write to the Tata Sky people to tell them about you. I am also their customer.
Look forward to seeing you at 10 AM on 17 July at**** , Sector 71, Mohali. It is a white 1 kanal bungalow with a red roof and is opposite Kargil Park.”

So there I was sitting, waiting for Gen. Raj Mehta when I heard a loud, confident, caring voice “Hey Davinder!!! Pleasure to meet you”, “Good Morning Sir” I replied and stood up to shake hand, “Come here, you deserve a hug” he pushed me towards him and hugged me. I have no words to explain the feeling and respect I felt at that time. It was most honorable moment of my life. Suddenly I felt that people still believe in and appreciate the honesty. I checked around the room, it was full of cups, medals and personal pics of Gen. R Mehta. “Come inside”, he said and took me in to his personal room. “This is my work place” he pointed towards his room. The whole room was full of books and papers with a PC and Notebook and self pictures of Maj Gen Raj Mehta receiving award from President and Vice President of India. “What do u do beta? how old are u?” and then he asked me about my birthplace and family background. “Himachalies are usually honest, because you people are close to nature, and we always look-forward to them and expect something good!!!”

Yes he was right. Being a nature lover and belonging to a society which is honest and love makes you one like them.
“Every time when u wake up, you should tell yourself what you want to be in life and keep it saying to your mind, because when u keep saying the same thing… tumhare andar uss chiz, us mukaam tak pahunchane is lalak bad jaati hai, dimag sone nahi deta aur tum puri mehnat karte ho us tak pahunchne ki, this is what people usually do when they have to achieve something”. “Jab bhi tumhe lage, you are diverting from your path, slap yourself. That is the best medicine which will keep you going. Jab koi dusra tumhe thapad marta hai you feel guilty, irritated. Khud apne aap ko thapad maaro aur batao ki sahi rasta kya hai, then only you can stay concentrated”.

While communicating with sir the motivation and learning which I got will always remain with me. The kind of behavior which was shown by him was reflecting the learning he had from life. There were not much talks about Army and armed forces which we usually expect from an army person, rather he asked me about my work and learning experience and motivated me to achieve the ultimate goals in life. I can say that it was most honorable moment of my life. And i'll always carry the learning i got from those 30 minutes of meeting.!!!!!
